Melissa Milligan, VMD, DACVIM (SAIM)

Internal Medicine

Melissa Milligan, VMD, DACVIM (SAIM), Board Certified in Veterinary Internal Medicine joined the team at Guardian Veterinary Specialists in 2022. She is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Milligan received her veterinary medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, she was the recipient of an award for outstanding patient care, on the Dean’s List, and had spent a month caring for wildlife in Kenya. Following this, she pursued a rotating internship at Tufts Veterinary Emergency Treatment and Specialists.

Dr. Milligan continued her training at Animal Medical Center as a specialty intern for the Interventional Radiology / Endoscopy Department. She completed her residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Animal Medical Center and obtained board certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She spent the following year there is a dual position with Interventional Radiology / Endoscopy and Internal Medicine.

She has published on subcutaneous ureteral bypass devices, esophageal strictures, and upper urinary tract uroliths.

Her clinical interests include interventional endoscopy, minimally-invasive procedures, hemodialysis, stem cell therapy, and nephrology/urology.

Dr. Milligan is the owner of a Westie named Freddy (full name Captain Frederick Wenworth). Outside of work, she enjoys running, traveling, and being in nature. Freddy is a constant companion for all adventures.

Drs. Palma, Milligan, and Sarno of Guardian are great, knowledgeable, kind, talented, and compassionate doctors who really truly care about their patients and their families. They have made a positive difference to our pets and their lives - and the families of the pets too.
