We’re very pleased to announce that we’ll be adding an important new staff member next month. She’s Dr. Laura Ateca and she’ll be our new criticalist. Dr. Ateca is board-certified in critical care, adding extra expertise to our highly skilled Emergency Service.
Her bio follows:
Laura Ateca, VMD, Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care
Dr. Laura Ateca is a board-certified critical care specialist who will bring her extensive expertise to Guardian Veterinary Specialists in early 2019.
Dr. Ateca attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for both her undergraduate and veterinary school education from 2003 to 2011. She then completed a small animal internship at the University of Pennsylvania Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital from 2011 to 2012. She stayed on at UPenn to complete her residency training in the Emergency and Critical Care Department from 2012 to 2015, serving as Chief Resident from 2014 to 2015.
While at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, she was trained and gained considerable experience in a wide range of emergency and critical diseases, including multi-organ failure, toxin exposures, heart and lung disease, and the treatment of sepsis.
To date, she has published three peer-reviewed manuscripts and authored a book chapter. Since her residency, Dr. Ateca has continued to work at a high-volume, small animal specialty hospital in the Emergency and Critical Care Service.
Dr. Ateca will be the attending criticalist of the Emergency and Critical Care Service at Guardian Veterinary Specialists. She will use her considerable skills to treat and monitor the care of the hospital’s most seriously ill and injured pet patients.
